Mid-Term Meeting of the VALIAS Project

📌 Successful Mid-Term Meeting of the VALIAS Project!

We are proud to announce the successful completion of the mid-term meeting of the VALIAS Project – Valorization of Invasive Alien Species for Sustainable Food and Feed Applications.

🔬 During the meeting, partners presented the progress made across all Work Packages, highlighting major achievements in:
🌿 Identification, listing, and prioritization of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) based on their ecological impact and potential for valorization
🧪 Green extraction of high-value compounds from prioritized marine IAS such as Fistularia commersonii, Lagocephalus sceleratus, Pterois miles, Sargassum, Asparagopsis, and Ulva
🧴 Formulation and encapsulation of bioactive ingredients for food and feed applications
⚖️ Toxicological and regulatory evaluation to ensure safety and compliance
♻️ LCA and LCC analysis for assessing environmental and economic sustainability
📣 Continued efforts in communication, dissemination, and exploitation

💬 A special highlight was the participation of secondees, who shared valuable insights and reflections from their experiences across host institutions — showcasing the strong collaboration, knowledge exchange, and interdisciplinary learning at the heart of the project.

🤝 The mid-term meeting served as an excellent platform for partners to present results, share knowledge, align on upcoming tasks, and reaffirm their commitment to the project’s ambitious goals.

🌍 VALIAS is paving the way toward the sustainable utilization of invasive marine species, contributing to biodiversity management, circular economy, and innovation in food and feed systems.
A big thank you to all partners and secondees for their excellent work and collaboration so far — we look forward to an impactful second half of the project!
